his mother was worried-his father had gone to bed -and was angry because of the fuss his wife was making of her son.......

lf the ear -drum is intact, then the bleeding is from the external auditory meatus. He may have Otitis Externa,Otomycosis Externa or he may have inadvertently injured his outer ear canal while cleaning or scratching, thereby getting a laceration which bled profusely. The outer canal is lined by skin and bleeds readily with trauma.
A blow to the head ,without loss of consciousness is not likely to cause bleeding from the ear.
A 2-week's appointment at an Ear Clinic sounds fine as none of these external ear conditions pose any threat to the boy's life.
Please reassure your friend.

He could have a to much ear wax, or have shoved something in there trying to clean his ears, but if he did have a blow to the head, I don't think I would wait the 2 weeks for the appointment, get him in to another Dr. now, or to the ER.. sounds a bit serious.. ones ear just does not start to bleed for no good reason..

Head injury definate possibility. I would get a cat scan done if I were you. Has he had a fall or been in a fight? If the eardrum is intact, I would be worried. People don't bleed for no reason, and if the most likely cause has been ruled out, other options need to be examined, PRONTO.

I guess a blow to the head could have caused it, but normally symptoms of a concussion appear in the first 24hrs. I wouldn't be worried about it if its only happened the once. Keep an eye on him though over the next week.

can't you take the boy straight to the ear clinic and demand they see him there and then as he is still only young and 2 weeks is a long time to wait if you don't know what is causing the bleeding

Best bet is to get him to an emergency room. He needs a Doctors attention immediately.

Sounds definately like trauma to the head, even if he is not admitting it at the moment, for whatever reason....take him to ER or casualty asap.

it could be anything. it sounds serious tho...you need to get him checked out immediately. it could be what you said...a blow to the head, brain cancer, etc. there are a lot of things......
