I want to sell my car privately. I think there is a problem with the radiator - seems to overheat when sitting in traffic and there was a leak. Is it better for me to just sell it cheap as is, or to get this fixed and fully serviced before selling? Will this really add a lot more onto the sale price if I do so? (Its a vauxhall tigra). Can anyone help please!

As an auto engineer i would reccomend that you have the vehicle servicedas this is always a good selling point, how anyone can diagnose a leaking water pump without seeing the vehicle is beyond me, the water leak can be from anywhere, take the car to a local garage, before you do make some enquiries and find one with a decent reputaion, avoid places like halfords aand suach as they are very expensive. You need them to do a coolant system pressure test, this will pressurise the system as it is when its running and be able to find the leak easier that way, if they do a good job on the water leak ask them to service the car and stamp teh service history always more impressive that wat and can add up to £200 on to the value

I think you should consider your positives and negatives. If you have the money and time 2 spend before you put the vehicle for sell then you should consider fixing it. In the other hand if you don't have the time and money then you want 2 be as honest and straight forward 2 the buyers. So you give them the facts and 2 options. 1option you fix they buy at ____ 2nd option you don't fix they buy at___. I was in auto sales for a while and I know for a fact that people like honesty & options when looking for a car. Good Luck!

Sounds like it needs more than a service , I would advertise and price it accordingly making it clear that it needs repair making sure the buyer is clear that it needs work doing on it could save problems later on for you make sure the buyer signs a note stating that he/she is aware that it has a problem if they purchase it. they then cannot say you ripped them off sounds like a leaking rad could be the least of its problems maybe a blown head gasket and damaged water pump OK if the buyer is capable and willing 2 buy the parts and make the repair themselves neither is 2 difficult 2 replace if you know what you are doing but not everybody is capable of doing it themselves if you take it into a repair shop it will cost ??????????????????? so be fair its not nice 2 be ripped off! Either that or just bung it into a auction where it is usually you pay your money and take tour chances . you will probably have too take a lower price but be aware your car will not heal itself so if you decide 2 keep it you better be able and willing 2 get your wrenches and hands dirty in the near future !!!!!!

It can't hurt. It is a positive selling point if you have the papers showing that a car was just serviced. That's one thing I look for when I buy. It proves that you aren't trying to pass off a car that is in bad shape. It's better to spend the little bit of cash on a service and get the car sold.

Lots of people looking to buy a decent car privately would look for a full service history, that way they think they are safeguarding themselves and would be more likely to pay your asking price. By not having it serviced it might put the buyer off because of the "unknown" as to what they might have to spend on it soon after buying it.

I definately owuld, if there are problems you oculd get in trouble with the buyer later on. A lot of people use the rac service where they come out and have a look at the engine of the car that you aregoing to buy and let you know if there are any problems (my friends and boyfriend do this) and if they highlight any problems it will put prespective buyers off

well, i have some good news. it sounds like the water pump is going bad. and, as such, i'd have it replaced. but be sure to let your buyer have the reciepts in case of warrenty work needing to be done. they'll respect you more for getting the problem fixed, and, as a general rule, a good working car is more valuable than a car that needs fixed. thus you can get more money from the sale.

Id get it checked out, only because the potential buyer might not want to pay as much for a car that doesnt work properly. And if there are any other problems then when it gets fixed they'll get done to.

Yeah.... almost definately.
The better condition the car is when someone comes to take a look at it, the less ammunition they'll have to haggle the price down.

Yes, It's necessary to repair your car before sell it. If ur car is in well condition and buyer want to take one driving experience that it may be possible that he/she could give u more money as per ur expectation..
