I can see your frustration, but imagine what it's like to call the sport that currently has it's World Cup in Germany the name of a different sport in you current dialect. Football could mean a variety of sports.

The English roll their eyes when Americans talk about "soccer." But actually, it's what the game should be called. And it's a British word.

"Watchin' some footie, mate?"

"Hah?"

"Watchin' a game a footie are ya."

"Oh, I'm just watching the soccer game."

The Liverpool fan hoisted his beer. "Football, innit."

So which is it? Football or soccer? There are roughly 6 billion people - minus the population of the United States - in this world who would go with the former. The damn game is played with your feet, after all. How could it be called anything other than football?

I thought I was alone; I've been asking practically all people who use the word soccer, what it means. I mean, football, where guys use their feet - where does soccer come from? And American football? I don't think I even want to get started on that argument!! Some of these things are soooo wrong!

It's football all around the world except USA and some other countries where it's called soccer to not make a confusion between american football and the european football..so that's how it is...

Football is American men all padded up tackling each other while tossing a pig skin around. In soccer you actually have men in shape, but that doesn't keep them from acting like babies when they get hurt. But to your question, yes it is aggravating when people call soccer, football.

It does depend where in the world you are. In australia, we have 4 codes of "football" (Australian Rules, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Soccer/Football) we are now TRYING to get used to calling soccer "football".

I know that in the USA they have NFL or Gridion. so it just depends where you live. Anywhere else is football I know.

In my opinion

FOOTBALL!

Only Football is King. Soccer is just made up by those pesky Americans with their dumb american football.

The only sport that is played with your feet is football. American football is played with your hands.

Football is the most populair sport in the world.

We have a lot of football codes here in Aus so at this stage, to be understood by fellow Aussie, I'm using soccer.

soccer is a sport adopted by the u.s.

one of the oldest sports in the world... a ball that u kick w/ your feet.. that many countries call it by its original and logical name....futbol.

i dont know why the u.s. or english speaking people called it soccer... or why american foot ball is called football you dont play the majority of the game w/ feet...

basket ball is called basketball cause u try to make a ball in a basket... baseball because you try to hit the ball to get on base.. what went wrong w/ the football
