Oh honey believe me, I know how you feel.

Give it another week, then take another test.

There are a lot of false negatives (according to unbiased tests) with most home pregnancy tests until you are a week past the first day of your missed period. In addition, many women miscarry in the first week or two after ovulation, so testing earlier than that can show you (correctly) that you are pregnant, then you get what appears to be a normal period.

If you wait a few days longer, you will have a really good chance of having an accurate test.

However, in some cases, stress can cause ovulation to be late. If you had any particularly unusual situation 3-5 weeks ago, then this could be the reason you're "late" (in fact, your period is *always* on time--about 2 weeks after ovulation)...*or* it could be the reason your pregnancy test is showing negative even when you are pregnant. In this case, waiting 2 more weeks will give you a better chance.

Can I still be pregnant if the test is negative (have a "false negative")? In a word, yes. You could be testing too early (before your baby is making enough pregnancy hormone to be detected by the test.) And some women (this is fairly rare, but possible) never get a positive urine test even when they're definitely pregnant (for some reason the hormone doesn't make it into their urine.) I have a friend who didn't get a positive HPT until 25 DPO! (With her second baby, a test at 23 DPO was negative . . . but a test on 30 DPO was positive. Oddly enough, with #3, her positive test came at only 12 DPO.) If you get a negative test but think you might be preggo anyway, wait a couple of days (giving the hCG hormone time to build up) and try again. It's not over until the fat lady sings-- and your period crashes the party.

If you are not monitoring your fertility in any way (OPK's, charting cervical mucus or basal temperature, ultrasounds) it becomes extra-tricky. There are two parts to every menstrual cycle: from the start of your period to ovulation, which can vary quite a bit in length, and from ovulation to your next period, which is usually consistent in length. (This second half is known as the "luteal phase," and the normal range is 10-16 days. It's normal for your typical luteal phase to vary by a day or two. For example, mine is normally 11 days, but 10 and 12 are not unheard of either. I have also had a couple of longer ones by total fluke.)

Because ovulation can happen at any time, it's possible your egg was delayed for some reason (stress, illness, travel, excitement.) This doesn't mean your period is actually "late" (it could arrive within the normal 10-16 days after ovulation), but rather than your entire cycle was delayed due to a later-than-usual ovulation.

Good luck

Chances are very good you could be seeing a false negative, in some women in just takes a while for the pregnancy hormone to get strong enough for a test to pick up, I was over three weeks prego and was still getting false negatives on a prego test (both the at home and the doctors office tests.) Found out I was prego from a sonogram at 4 weeks gestation. Good luck!

Just the stress of trying to conceive can throw off your periods. I understand that you do not wish to see a negative result, however the chances are that the test is correct. I know that this is difficult to do but you need to try not to stress over getting pregnant. You can actually trick your body into believing you might be and throw off your periods as well. It is important to know your cycle and predict ovulation, this will be easier to do if you do not stress too much. Hope this helps and good luck.

re test in a week or so, its possible it was a false result, as the preg hormone is low to begin with but it is doubling everyday so even a few days later could show up positive. if u dont get ur period then take the test again in a week. good luck

It's tough when you want to be and you see that stupid negative test. Unfortunately, they can usually detect the pregnancy hormone by now. Wait a week, then try one again, if you haven't gotten your period. Good luck!

chances are, you are really anxious about it, right? its probably putting a little stress on your body and is making you miss your period. Or it could very well be that you are preggy but just got a false response.
