You'd be surprised, but if you really, REALLY forgive someone, in no time you will actually forget whatever it was they did to hurt you.

The reason people don't get the forget part is that they have never really forgiven someone. Don't confuse forgiveness with permissiveness.

I think that the key to forgiving is to realize that whatever it is they did to you, you have done something just as hurtful to someone else at some time, so you are just as prone to doing bad as they are.

Whoever it is that has done you wrong, just think about the fact that one time they were innocent children. Someone, somewhere in their life, probably when they were very young, taught them to be the way they are now, and it's so sad. See them as that child.

Murderers and other criminals have to be put in prisons to keep the rest of us safe, so I'm not talking about being PERMISSIVE and allowing people to continue to do bad. That is a seperate issue.

The bible states that if we do not forgive others, than God will not forgive us. And without forgivness, we will be lost in our sins.

So forgive everyone. Don't condone their actions, or even be permissive of the behavior, but forgive the person, the child inside them. If they always lie, for example, than just don't deal with them anymore, but you can still forgive.

You must both forgive AND forget because if you do not forget, even though you have forgiven you may find yourself making judgment about future situations based on past happenings, its only human nature to do so. Just dont ALWAYS forget, somethings really should be remembered, perhaps not even forgiven because the require our predetermined judgement.

I try to be this way. But I rarely achieve it. To forgive? That is the easy part. The forgetting.... not so easy. I have a hard time trusting.

If you have really forgiven, then only you can forget the matter. Many times we say forgiven and keeps some revenges in mind and so we cannot forget. Like from spoiled food the foul odour comes.

You can always forgive, but you cannot always forget. It may not be as important to you in the future, but you most likely will remember it.

I believe that you should forgive because it would be wrong to expect God to forgive us of all we may do, if we can't forgive others. No one ever forgets, but to forgive is divine.

as if we could even forget if we wanted to. its all psychological you know. when bad things happen to us or when we see something bad, our brain is stimulated with adrenaline or we are stressed. the stress makes our mind put the incident in a storage of memory which can warn us not to do it again its like a "mistakes box" that your brain just opens up if you need any warning.
forgive, yes but forget, we are iincapble of it nless we have alzheimers or amnesia or when we become senile. to err is human to forgive is divine.

We don't truly forgive people if we still hold on to the past. Love does not keep a record of wrong doings.
