Have you ever heard of anyone being pregnant without sypmptoms? My best friend has been having very very light periods around menstruation but is constantly feeling exhusted and sleepy. She used to have 5-6 days medium flow periods but over the last 3 months they have changed to extremely light and short. She did a home pregnancy test 3 months ago, but it was negative. I keep telling her to take another but she is convinced that she is not pregnant but I am not so sure. She also seems to be putting on a little weight around her middle and last week at my house, she threw up once for no apparent reason.

I reckon she is around 12-14 weeks if she is pregnant. Have you ever known anyone to not have any real syptoms and confusing light bleeding?

When she did HPT during the first month it came out with a faint positive, but only after the time limit. She discounted it and said it wasn't a valid result. I am going to buy her another one today, and get her to take it again.

She did some blood tests and they are actually negative. She is now having hormone and fertility tests done to check that everything is ok. So whilst it is possible to be pregnant and have light bleeding, it is rare. PMS can actually cause very similar symptoms to early pregnancy also. Thanks for all the answers.

You had not given age of your friend. It matters. The symptoms of irregular / lighter periods, sleepy and exhausted feeling etc. can be due to some other health problem. The conclusive proof of pregnancy is pregnancy test. Better if she consults some Gynecologist because it seems she is having some complications.
This is my general opinion.

My friends sister was 7 months pregnant when she found out she was expecting! She hardly had any movement/kicking and put it down to stress (!) and had light "periods" every month as she was still taking the pill! There are some hormonal imbalances which can cause pregnancy symptoms but i would try to get her to take another test or see her local gp. Maybe she is pregnant and secretly planning an abortion and doesn't want anyone else to know about it, or maybe she has taken a test and isn't pregnant. Either way, she needs to talk to someone soon just in case.

Its not uncommon for the periods to carry on although there is no reason why they should. If the pregnancy hormone was not detected in the urine (pregnancy test kit) there is every chance that she is not pregnant.

It is very rare that pregnancy tests are wrong, although it has been known that one can say neg and then a week later u get apositive result. It just depends on the hormone. Also at some point we do put on some weight so thats not unusual.

Get her to see the gp if she's not sure

my friend had her baby in a night club, she didnt know she was pregnant. luckily family and friends helped out as she had no stuff prepared. she never had any symptoms at all. i have four children on my last two i was bleeding lightly. if need be go to your local hospital to the epac department (early pregnancy assesment clinic.) normally open from 8 am. they will do a vaginal scan (sounds worse than it is) and will be able to tell you then. ps friends can go too for support. also i have had to do 6 pregnancy tests to confirm my last pregnancy 1st was neg next 2 were pos but very light 4th was neg and so was 5th and last one was pos so let doc decide.

Talk her into getting another test. She is showing symptoms -- her fatigue. It is possible to still menstruate while pregnant, although rare. If it is still negative, and she refuses to go see a doctor and have a blood test, then at least encourage her to a healthy life style. No smoking, drinking and such. Until you and her can be 100% certain whether she is or isn't pregnant. Good luck.

yes i would get her to go to the doctors for the first 3 months of my third pregnancy i had very light periods so therefore did not know i was pregnant until i had stomach cramps and nearly miscarried did i actually know i was pregnant. i had no other symptom's at all.

also a friend actually gave birth at 6.30am in the morning after her husband went to work, leaving her with 2 sick children that had bad tummy bugs, she herself thought she had a dose of a tummy bug but gave birth she had period's has normal each month and she never put on any weight either and that is true. if someone told me before this happen to my friend i too would have said no way , but it can happen.

get your friend to go to the docs and ask for a scan.

My sister-in-law didn't know think she was pregnant until she was almost four months since she kept having periods. She was getting sick too and starting to get a little pooch in her stomach. So I would suggest that she take another pregnancy test to make sure. She might have taken to early.

It is biologically impossible to have periods while pregnant - simple as that. If she has no pregnancy symptoms, and a pregnancy test came back negative why on earth do you think she is pregnant?

Yes i´ve had many friends in that situation, 4 to be exact, they did know they where pregnant but always had the fear of loosing the baby, doctor sent them home to rest because there was a large threat for the baby. She should visit a doctor as that could be a dangerous situation.
