OMG! Have you ever thought of looking at a map of the USA or the world? Go to a library, open a book with an atlas inside or use the Internet to find out. As for those hinting that there will soon be 51 states depending on Puerto Rico becoming a full state (by the way, you are either a state or you aren't...there is no such thing as a half or semi state), don't count on it. The people there have all the benefits of statehood with the exception of being able to vote in national elections. They don't pay federal income or social security taxes but are entitled to food stamps and welfare. The men don't have to sign up for the draft (selective service) although a lot of Puerto Ricans serve honorably in the military. Finally, the Republican controlled Congress will battle against statehood as almost certainly statehood would result in the addition of 2 new Democratic US Senators.

There are 50 'full' states ... 48 in the continental US plus Alaska and Hawaii.

Puerto Rico has not yet decided if they wish full state-hood or not.

There are a number of 'US Territories' including many in the Carribean and South Pacific.
