Blade Runner is in my collection! I really like less-fantastic, plausable sci-fi...
But ignoring that, a suprisingly good sci-fi flick was Chronicles of Riddick, an epic adventure in one film (you don't have to see Pitch Black to appreciate this one).

Bladerunner was okay as science-FICTION(And, the book it was derived from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? was pretty good.) But, I still believe the best sci-fi movie made to date was the "..proverbial good science fiction movie":
2001: A Space Odyssey.

PS and not to spoil it for you, but Yes, Deckard (Harrison Ford)was indeed a Nexxus android. Only something "more human than human" could catch something else that was "more human than human".

Alien.
all of them.
a truly realistic and scary encounter.
not too arty, Blade Runner
not too hokey, Star Wars.
really, how can anyone call Star Wars "sci-fi"??? it was fantasy, and it degenerated into cartoonery.
I don't think 2001 has aged well, and apart from being set in space wasn't particularly interesting.

It gets kinda of boring...but 2001 Space Odyssey was sort of a good picture. I mean, come on, how many sci-fi filmmakers remember that there isn't sound in space?

But yeah, old school Star Wars all the way!

I agree with you. Blade Runner. Great story, awsome music-Vangelis. I would like someone to make a movie of Ursula K. Leguin's "Left Hand of Darkness."

Dune is my favorite. I didn't like it at first because I saw it when I was young, but as an adult, its a really cool movie.
