If you have not opted for Internet banking, then you need not be afraid of anyone accessing your account on Internet and carrying out transactions. If you have opted for Internet banking, then you need to keep your login ID and password secret. If these are leaked, then person having this information can access the account. Many banks have incorporated safety features. For example, if you have registered for alerts (mobile or emails) then you are immediately intimated if a transactions above a fixed limit (to be fixed by you) is carried out in your account. This way you immediately come to know and can alert bank to stop all further transactions. Some banks have incorporated features like sending transaction password to you on your mobile (when you log in and try to carry out the transaction). This password is valid for only 5 minutes so that transaction is completed within this time. You have to be really unlucky to lose your mobile phone also to same thieves. You can check up the security features with your bank before opting for Internet banking. If you are careful, there is no risk. I have been transacting on Internet banking over 4 years without any problems.

It is possible. However, the perpetrator will need not only your account number, but also your password.

In order to avoid this situation from ever occurring, make sure to keep all you personal information and passwords in a safe place.

When you share your personal information online, security should be of the highest priority, and most banks understand this. This is why most banks employ sophisticated security methods. The instant you sign in to your secure personal online banking account, your user ID and password are encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. This prevents anyone other than yourself and the bank from accessing your any of your personal information.
