GM cars have gotten far better in past ten years and can compete w/ most of the better cars out there. the GMC truck i used to drive had 186,000 miles on it and they were hard miles and still ran fine w/ no problems

What is wrong with American cars?

I own a Pontiac Trans Am, and building it for power and speed. But at the same time I am also looking for a 4-cyl econo car, where I more than likely go for an older Saturn car. the Eco car will be a beater, while working on my car.

I don't see why buying American makes anyone crazy. I know that Honda's and Toyota's are sooooo reliable and great on gas, but ONLY IN THEIR STOCK STATE. The second you add any kind of performance product, you start having problems.

When it comes to performance, I will always go American. When it comes to reliability of a car I never plan to modify, I will go with a Jap car.

EDIT: One of the posts below made a very funny point that many of the "foreign" makers have plants here in the United States. Honestly, the asker of this pointless question is obviously the one whom is "out of their mind".

Please edit your question, and get into detail about what you hate. Maybe you are just mad because someone in a stock V6 Camaro beat your modded Honda in a race! LOL

SECOND EDIT: The question poster obviously has the same number IQ equal to the number of horspower his car gets to the wheels (probably around 25hp). Before you post some dumb sh*t statement again, how about you give an actual reason why you hate American cars! Also, I hope you know that the Jap car you are driving was more than likely assembled here in the USA, so that would more than likely make you a hypocrit. If it makes you feel any better my Trans Am was made in Canada!

HEY BONG TOKING: Obviously, you smoked a little too much. You have no knowledge of cars. You seem to forget the fact that many of the Jap cars are now made here in the United States. Also, your logic behind the engine size and what someone should buy is just plain retarded.

First off, you must have missed my point about Jap cars. I don't understand why kids like you would spend money to try to make a Honda fast.

If I were looking for a 4-cyl just for great gas mileage, I would go with a Saturn. Why? Because they are NOT as over rated as a damn Honda or Toyota. The price is much lower for pretty much the same quality and MPG.

If I were to go with a 6-cyl, I don't know what I would choose. Owning also a Dodge Avenger, I know it wouldn't be a dodge (because of the trans and not the engine... which is made by Mitsu).

A truck, I would go with the Ford F-Series, because I know for a fact that they last. My father has a F-150 with over 200k miles on it.

As for V8's, I think your just saying that because Japs don't know what V8's are! I have a 1995 Trans Am LT1 with a 6-spd tranny. I bought it for $3600. I put about $1000 into with modifications and replacement parts. The funny part is that I can easily out run your Subaru STI's and Mitsu Evo's like nothing! The only difference is that I spent $30k less then those douche bags did!

PS. Don't talk about something you obviously have no knowledge about!

You might check the latest JD Power and Associates ratings.....Cadillac and Buick have been steadily climbing the list for years as far as reliability. In case you didn't know it, these are some of the best built cars on the American highway nowadays. Lexus has been elite for years but not many Americans can afford them. That leaves Nissan, Honda, Toyota, which is designed for Japanese and smaller Americans, and America is the most obese country on the planet so that's why Americans want big cars...Toyo isn't an option for them. But Nissan took a nosedive last year in reliability...mostly due to their Mississippi plant (that is Mississippi, USA by the way). Kia is at the bottom of JDP&A list every year for complaints...something like 7 complaints per every 100 vehicles sold...that's astronomical if you're familiar with the surveys. Honda is reliable in every way, yet again they don't make vehicles with much room, and they have only one poor excuse for a truck. So there are many good reasons to buy American....you just have to pull your head out of your rectum and look around.

ps....my Cadillac pulls down 300 horses with 290 lb/ft of torque and still manages 26 mpg on the highway, 20 city...and 6 years and 174000 miles have yielded me 2 window repairs and a new alternator as the only repairs made....plus it still looks sweet. That's my favorite reason for buying American.....Japs still can't figure out how to design a beautiful car, with a luxurious enterior.

nope just trying to be "patriotic" nowadays. I have always been a Chevy girl myself, and because of the cost of repairs and fuel am thinking of going "overseas" for my next car choice.

incapacitated, by the way

And what the hell does rice have to do with it you struddle lover??? Allie Kittie or should I just call you biggot instead?? Not all foreign vehicles are from Rice Countries - I am pretty sure, you might want to get a tune up for your sad and narrow mind.

JESUS - what the hell is a Jap car???? you are the sort of people that keep this world from working together - nice job - a*holes

Please define "incopacitated". I don't find that in the dictionary!

Hmmm... Maybe it's that we know how to spell and capitalize "American".

What make did you have in mind, anyway, as an alternative? Many Toyotas, Hondas, Hyundais, Mazdas, Jaguars, and Mercedes are actually made right here in the US of A! Many "American" brands are made in Canada and Mexico.

It's a global economy, dude. Get with the program, or be left in the dust.

Butthead...

Georgetown Kentucky makes Toyota. Stop with the racial stuff, its all GLOBAL. Mercedes, or is it BMW?, uses American steel. The only vehicle that is truly, completely American made is the Harley Davidson motorcycle. Parts for everything else are made globally.

There's no such thing as an American car anymore, at least not new ones. Parts of the car might be from American components, but the moajority are foreign components.

I'm not sure what country your in, but it sounds like its not the US
We as a country are slowly going to hybrid vehicles that are comparable to the euro smart car, eventually we will go to hydrogen fuel cells, we do like are big cars! i hope that changes but i doubt it, as long as the consumer buys it, the automobile company's will keep making them big, no i don't think were nuts, allot of cars are purchased used for real cheap, we do make allot of quality products but i would like to see more quality products sold in the us as well as overseas.
