Not really. God will always exist to those who believe in him. Personally, I don't believe in God (Believing in God to me is sort of animal-like; we control our own destinies and fates and there is nothing beyond death) but those who do...well, they aren't going to stop for Hawking, are they? And Hawking isn't neccessarily going to discover the beginning. There are many other brilliant scientists out there working or working with Hawking to discover the origins of the universe.

Hawkins is only a theory; Hinduism is very clear about universe. The whole universe is devoid of any matter or any particle. No one has power to create the universe not even God. But God does have power to create a virtual world which cannot be distinguished easily from a realistic world that could exist. The world is therefore only an illusion. The studies of science, matter etc. don't mean anything as nothing exists other than the all pervading Brahmn. The world/universe is nothing but creation of the Brahmn in the Brahmn with the Brahmn.

Any type of god is purely religious beliefs. If a person believes god created the universe, then god created the universe in their mind. Just because some scientist discovered the creation of the universe, doesn't mean it is believed to be true by all. What I'm trying to say here is, as long as religion exist, so will the beliefs of how the universe was created, whether its been proven or not. The key words here are belief and faith.

Stephen Hawking won't discover the big theory of everything because he still can't figure out:
A) The cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
B) How lightning works. No one really does right now, there are just theories that "need more research to confirm them." Those theories are WRONG.
C) If black holes REALLY exist.
D) Any viable alternatives to fossil fuels.
Yep. Stephen Hawking still has a long way to go to figuring out the Universe.

Stephen Hawking is a brilliant man and I've heard he believes in the Bible as well. If you ever have a really bad day, just look at Stephen Hawking and all he has overcome. He was supposed to be dead at 25 from cerebral palsy.

Hawking's theory of the beginning of the universe explains forces and events that happened. It doesn't explain where the forces came from and what or who started the events. God could have easily made the "Big Bang" happen and could have more easily created gravity to hold the Earth together.

Hawking is just another person making a guess about the beginning of the universe. Too bad he doesn't pick up a Bible...all the answers have been in there for a long, long time.

What do you mean, still?
There are enough nails in Gods coffin alrady. Pretty much not a single thing that the bible says about the creation of the world is able to stand up to even the most casual scientific inspection.
If your faith depends on the description of creation in your favoured relgious text being true, then you are already lost.

I would not count on Stephen Hawkings making any great break throughs. After listening to a recent interview, http://tinyurl.com/rh75h , I conclude that his best work is behind him and we're more likely to get more goofy ideas from him in the future as opposed to real science break throughs.

Why do you think the discovery of the beginning of the universe would debunk christianity? God still created the Universe, who cares how?
