Once upon a time in a land far far away there lived a mighty Dragon that was terrorizing the countryside, the King had a beautiful daughter and proclaimed that anyone who could kill the dragon could have his daughter in marriage and half his kingdom as a reward. Young knights came from every realm to slay the dragon, but the Dragon burned every one of them to a crisp..years went by and no one could slay the Dragon, then one day an old knight rode in on a horse that was half dead, the old knights lance was broken and splintered, the old knight said "I'll slay the Dragon Sire!" and the King thought him a fool and said "Go ahead, you'll die trying like all the rest", but the old knight slew the Dragon ..do you know who he married? He married the King... because it is a "fairy" tale! Nye

FernGully the Last Rainforest because it teaches you to love everything and take care of what we have that we forget. It reminds us the things that bring us so much joy that we already have, but mistify and still ask for more.
I also love the movie because Batty is the voice of Robin Williams :)
Runner up would be Cinderella, like the movie Ever After, cuz it teaches you that no dream is too big, and if you work hard, you can someday find joy no matter what mess your in.

my favourite of all folktales is probably the story of elidorus who found the magic door into fairyland near glynmercherisaf just above pontneddfechan in the neath valley.
the story is a welsh version of the story more often known as the tale of oisinn.
i knew the elidorus version when i was growing up, when glynmercherisaf was a town in the next valley.
glynmercherisaf was near enough to be real, but far enough away to be mysterious.
and it always looked the sort of place one might find the gate to fairyland.

The original Hans Christian Anderson version of The Little Mermaid because of the sacrifices and final redemption. Her sisters cut off their hair to try to gain her life back, she suffered terrible pain to try to win true love, and she finally gave her life for her love. Even better, her sacrifice was not in vain because the "spirits of the air" gave her the chance to win an immortal soul. Kids who have only seen the Disney version don't know what they missed.

"The 12 Dancing Princesses" because as a child I loved the pictures of all the beautiful girls and their dancing shoes. Plus the prince is wise and clever which made the story interesting.

My favorite was always Rumplestiltskin. When I was a little girl, I was endlessly fascinated by the girl spinning flax into gold.
