in their final World Cup qualifier match between FRANCE & BULGARIA in Paris back in 1993, the match was heading towards a 1-1 draw. then in injury time, Emil Kostadinov scored the last minute winner for BULGARIA & send them instead to the 1994 finals.
BULGARIA went on to finish 4th in the 1994 finals losing 4-0 to SWEDEN in the 3rd & 4th place match.

You mean 4 years before France won the WC? That was in 1994.

Maybe Senegal.
I mean, not technically .. but France's lost to Senegal in the opening match must have shattered their confidence ... and the rest of it was history. They didn't get through to the second round. I imagine that must have been quite shocking to the French.
