my daughter lives in Dallas Texas, is searching for somewhere she can get a sonogram done to tell the sex of her baby before her baby shower in August ,her doctor refuses to give her one ,and will not refer her to anywhere she can have one done ,and the hospitals say she has to get a referral from her doctor ... thanks to anyone who can help.....

Tell her to switch doctors. I don't know why he wouldn't want her to have one. A 20 week ultrasound is considered normal these days...I've never heard of a doctor refusing one to a patient. Is your daughter insured? It could be that if she's not, the doctor would have to eat the costs of the ultrasound. They're not terribly expensive...maybe $300. I would think that if this is the case, the doctor would remember that he took the hippocratic oath, and should have the best interests of his patient and her baby in mind, and not some paltry few hundred dollars. Why is he refusing her an ultrasound?
Please also keep in mind that while having an ultrasound to tell the sex of your baby is pretty neat, the doctor should order one to look for any potential problems with the baby's vital organs and bones. (Heart, kidneys, liver, spine, arm and leg bones, feet, hands, etc.)
Too many people don't really give a care about all this...they just want to know the sex of their baby. One previous poster suggested Stork Snapshots. True, your daughter could go there, but please remember: THOSE PLACES ARE NOT STAFFED BY DOCTORS, NURSES, RADIOLOGISTS OR ANYONE ELSE WITH A MEDICAL BACKGROUND!! She could get a picture of her baby, but the person performing the ultrasound can't tell her anything about any potential conditions her baby may have, they can't measure her amniotic fluid, they can't do anything. Stork Snapshots (and places like it) are STRICTLY NOVELTY.

i live in Illinois but i went to a place called stork snapshots it is a "store" that you can pay for a 3-d ultrasound. it is AWESOME. you can actually see what you baby looks like. and you do not have to have your doctors approval. it cost me $110 it included a 30 min dvd 15 pictures and best of all a 100% positive that my baby was indeed a girl. Lady, none of the people who answered you are professional obstetricians. Maybe you should tell your doctor to ask the reason why he doesn't want her to have the ultrasound? What if it is a reason you could not have imagined. Just because it is exciting to know the answer for your party doesn't mean you should take matters into your own hand.

kaiser permaninta insurance does sonograms so if she is willing to swicth insuarance that is the place to go
