Pro:

Death penalty serves justice...it is what people fear, so it is what is taken away.

Death penalty shows that some crimes against humanity are so terrible that the ultimate punishement is the payment for doing the action.

The Cons...is that

It takes too long...appeal after appeal. Some have been on "Death Row " for twenty plus years.

That the wrong person could get executed.

That the law is prejiduced against blacks and minorities.

I worked in Attica for over 2 decades. There are two reasons for the death penalty. One some people can not be rehabilitated no matter what. In fact they see nothing wrong with what they did and even boast about it. There are all kinds of programs and councilling available. Still I have seen inmates who thought their time was just a break or planning time for what the were going to do when the got back out
Two, after seeing what life inside is like I would have commited suicide the first week if I had a life sentence. Imagine having a 6 x 8 living space including your bedside toliet. People telling you what to do and how to do every minute for the rest of your life. This includes what and when you are going to eat and when you may shower (usually once a week) Some inmates would choose the death penalty themselves.

i am against the death penalty. i don't see any pros besides the eye for an eye mentality. i think the punishment should be life in prison. the death penalty doesn't scare most criminals anyway, they don't think they are going to get caught.
i also think that people who commit crimes punishable by death should instead have the option to be used for lab testing instead if innocent animals.

Pros:
-tax payers don't pay for a criminal's costs in prison
-they don't have the chance to go back out on the streets
-noone else is hurt
Cons:
-they could be innocent
-their families would be sad :(

*Personally I'm for it unless there is a chance that they are innocent or mentally impaired because if you kill someone (for no reason) you shouldn't have the right to continue living*

Imagine one of your dearest is killed by a man ,if he stays in prison and continue his life how will you feel?
when killing some one is intentionally the best penalty is death but when it is not on purpose, the situation will be changed.
The psychiatrists try to make excuses for all human faults and say death penalty is not good . . . . . but if their children were killed ,will they say so?!!!!!

There is only one pro and that is the execution of mass murderer's who are psychopaths!

I don't believe in it otherwise. Too many chances to make a mistake because most are convicted on circumstantial evidence, or at least they used to be!

Well honestly, death to the evil should be more and more, no use in keeping the human slime around! It eats up our money and they come by the thousands, if the government would take them and shoot them up or gas them all it would save us a lot of money :)

For the preservation of life there has to be "Deterrents" both corporal and capital. At home and in schools the basic rudiments of acceptable behaviour, discipline, courtesy and respect are instilled into young minds.

We therefore learn as we grow up how to conduct ones self, sustaining these attributes and take our place in society and the community. We also become tolerant of others in accepting people have differing points of view. It engenders free thinking and renders many respective values to our thinking and way of life and on occassion prompts changes

That people whatever their back ground criminally set out to disregard the principles and vaules of society, its inherent structure, laws and culture and in so doing intentionally take the life of others is totally unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. They are devoid of life's meaning and all its attendant values under which society is duly governed.

When apprehended I agree every effort should be taken to prove their guilt. Albeit I see no need for exhaustive clap trap when such people are cleary identified on camera and/or by others wherein not the smallesy element of doubt possibly exists as to their guilt.

Following a guilty verdict they should immediately be taken from the court house, to a place of public execution, and shot! Not put to death by any humanitarian means

Conversely, time frames should be limited i.e. cases given set time frames to be heard and conluded. Also bent, twisted, smart ass lawyers should be stripped of their office and re-educated in the laws they purport to represent. Little or no criminal justice exists in courts as Laweres make deals (even the Judges are involved) to get their client off the hook!

There are no abiding elements in the progresion of life which enforce acceptance of such criminal intent. They go armed, armed with intent to kill if subject to discovery or apprehended by the public, police, security, the military or whoever / whatever. They go premeditated and will puposely and/or indiscriminally kill to avoid capture - or they go with the expressed prior intent to kill.

Take a look at our papers, everywhere for years these people cling and hold to life at the gross expense of others and society is forced to foot the bill. Do gooders and extreme nutters carry & wave flags and banners protecting them! Memebers of congress enforce their actions.

And the government arrests, charges and condems our military personnel for killing our enemies & the news media runs free to dig up every bit of dirt they can find to level against our military.

Those on death row are killers of every sort, yet congress administers to their needs and well being for years! What price, freedom, democracy and liberty for our military?

With the modern elements at hand to day (DNA) all these cases should be reopened / examined. When found conclusively guilty - execute them! It doesnt need years to do.

I'll be waiting for them either way...but swift justice is always a splendid thing...otherwise you're simply keeping unreformable predators competing with you for your scant resources(ie,food, water, oxygen )...
