Interesting question. Many scientist talk about discovering new laws and theories as "trying to read the mind of God" and when I hear this it makes me wonder if a religion can be made based on science. Then great scientists of the past can be considered devine, or saints or something like that. I mean, you could say that those people like Newton and Einstein were reading the mind of God, and as such, there is something special about those people. Oh well that is my two cents.

Religion is a belief is something larger than oneself.
Science is the study of things that can be proven.
Sometimes the two do meet. Scientists can and often are also believers in a certain religion. Also, those who have a religion... also can understand science. Of course you can keep going deeper into both issues but basically they are two different things. But then... that's just me and millions of other people.
:-) Great question!

Science is no religion. It just investigates how things are and comes up with equations and logic to understand matter, phenomena, etc. Religion is beliefs people have, which pertain more to who created the world and moral values, etc. Science doesn't give people ethics or morals. Also, it proposes theories, which change due to experimentation and more knowledge about the subject. Religion is important in a person's life and science is knowledge, important, but on a lesser level. I am Christian.

Superficially (as many answers indicate) the two seem to be opposite in their way of operating. Look again and you'll know that science is based on hypotheses and the process of investigating runs parallel with that of religion. Science is definitely a new religion for many who follow the trends .

I'd say that's a fallacious statement.

Religion is the belief in God or some higher power.

Science is the study and discovery of facts.

Although science cannot necessarily prove that religion is false, it stands to reason that facts are more convincing than beliefs.

No.
Religion is the belief and reverence for a supernatural power.

Science is a process of describing phenomena in the natural world.

They are incompatible not only in my opinion but, by definition.

Does the study of science bring us closer to belief in a supernatural power? In the long run, it will not. Supernatural will only remain so until we can define it in our natural world. In theory, At some point - religion will cease to exist.

I would rather it was the study of religion as a science....religious people seem to want to put words in Gods mouth no matter what religion they are. I say its time to update religion and include science. For someone to tell me how god created the world is a direct violation of the ten commandments! Who says God didnt create us through the process of evolution?
I AGREE WITH HELLO! God can pick ANY method of how he chooses! Its foolish to judge how God pulled this miracle off! HAPPY YOU ARE FULL OF IT! The mere awe of looking into the universe assures me of a supreme being! Some of you Earthlings are so naive and vain!!!! Well, I must return to my home planet now....EARTHLINGS! GET A CLUE! mOST RELIGIONS ARE ARCHAIC AND OUTDATED! We still believe what a bunch of iron age boobs thought!

Its a interesting topic, if you believe in religion you can go two ways: 1. God is first and thats it, so religion outways science. Or 2.. Religion and science go together because God wants us to understand what he created. Think...
