Qualitatively 4 hours 20 minutes!!! Your sleep consists of two parts-the first being the REM( rapid eye movement phase) about 20 minutes and a NREM phase of 40-50 minutes( non-rapid eye movement phase). Its during the NREM phase that your brains de- frags the various bits and pieces and during this time you are on autopilot. During the REM phase the brais checks all systems and gives you necessary commands like the bladder full signals etc.In disturbed sleep the NREM phase is reduced considerably and thus the quality is not achieved. Thus if you can relax and sleep well for 4 hours at a stretch without the assistance of any drug, thats all you need.

Well... This really varies for person to person. Generally 8 hours for grown adults (9 hours for teens, and more for younger children) is the accepted amount. However, you can train your body to take more or less. I knew a guy who only slept for about 3 or 4 hours a night, and took a 20 minute nap during the day, and he was perfectly healthy. I also once heard that Da Vinci slept 20 minutes every hour and was up the rest of the time. But I would suggest 8 or 9 hours but not more, because you can get groggy from too much sleep. Hope this helped!

Every human being is different. The "experts" say you need 8 hours, but that is not always possible. Some people say you need to sleep in patterns of 3 hours, like either you sleep 3 hours, or 6 or then nine. I don't think there is a spesific amount. You just have to figure out what works best for you.

That depends on the individual person. Age and health has a lot to do with it as well. In general it is recommended that a human get between 8-10 hours of sleep a night. However, I rarely do and I am still fine.

For the average person it is recommended that we get 8 hours of good sleep every night. I know that I like my sleep and could go for 10 hours whereas my husband is happy with 5 hours (but he does have a nap for an hour in the afternoon)

How long is a piece of string?it depend es on many factors really, for instance your age, your lifestyle etc. Some people manage on less sleep than others.Unless you are feeling continually drained/run down in which case you may need to look at your diet, cutting down your intake of caffeine particularly before you go to bed,or getting an MOT at your Doctors i wouldn't worry about it.I would hazard a guess that the average amount generally is between 6 to 7 hours a day.

It really depends on you. I find that I start to feel run down after a while if I don't get at least 7 hours per night, but you might need a bit more or less. Experiment with it and see what happens. If you go to sleep really easily you might find you need less time in bed, whereas if it takes you a while to get off then you may need longer.
