before u do that u should know that not all programs in the task manager u can delete just those who are not important like a weathter indicator or popup killer so be carefull not to do it to any important program like an anti virus . do the following
go to start menu then select run write
regedit and press Enter
on the shown window browes to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
on the right side u will see all the programs that will start when windows starts and they will keep running so delete the ones that u think are not important
good luck

If you mean the little row of icons on the bottom right corner (near your clock, if it's displayed), then that is called the "system tray". Your task manager is different.

Basically, you can get these to stop displaying. In some cases, you can right-click the icons and select either 'exit' or 'close' depending on the program.

There may also be an 'options' or 'configuration' selection that will open the configuration of the program. If that's the case, then you'll be looking for something like "display in system tray".

You could also deselect anything that says "run program when Windows starts". But you want to exercise a little caution doing that. Some things need to run, like your antivirus program.

If you're running XP, then the
System Tray icon display can be customized to a certain degree by following the following steps:

-Right-click the Taskbar
-Select Properties from the menu
-Select the "Hide inactive icons" check box
-Click Customize. This will present a dialog box that includes the icons currently in the System Tray as well icons that installed applications placed there.

-For each icon in the System Tray, select one of three states:
"Hide when inactive"
"Always hide"
"Always show"

Select "Always Show" to configure the icons desired to be available in the System Tray.

Select "Always hide" for icons that are not desired to appear automatically.

The System Tray will still display the clickable arrow that displays all of the icons installed on the computer.

Whenever a new application that adds a System Tray icon is installed these steps must be repeated to reconfigure the System Tray.

icons at the bottom right of window next to clock. This is called as system tray. All the icons are programs running in the system. You have to manually shut them or remove from start up.
