Cracks in either a concrete or an asphalt driveway provide a pathway for water to accumulate. When the water freezes, it expands. The result is a widening of the crack in the best of circumstances, and the destruction of the surrounding surface in the worst.

The use of a crack sealer will go a long way toward fixing this problem. Specific sealers are made for both types of driveways, and are usually selected for cosmetic reasons. Both types of sealers are widely available at any hardware or home improvement retailer.

Good luck with your driveway project.

Is it concrete?
I see people answered for an asphalt driveway but not concrete.
If it is concrete, I hate to say, there is really nothing you can do other then replace the piece all together. If you try patching the crack, anything you use will eventuallyy disappear. The crack will eventuall get bigger as well and nothing on the market is a permanent fix.

If it's the driveway entrance and not the portion inside of your private property, call city hall and ask for Dept of Public Works. From there, ask what type of permit you will need in order to hire a contractor to fix the driveway, and ask how you can attain that permit.

If it's inside of your private property (not the sloped entrance at the sidewalk), call city hall and ask for Dept of Building and Safety. Ask what type of permit you need to have this repaired, if you need a permit, and if so, how you can get this permit.
