I am a 3rd shift worker, obvisously meaning I have to sleep during the day. I am looking for a more convienient way to make my bedroom very dark other than putting tin foil up on the windows. Is there a paint of some sort that I can use to where it makes it really dark but yet me still being able to use my windows to see out of? If not what would you suggest??

Hey billey, I spent decades on the off-shifts and here is what I found to work for me in times of need. If you are motivated to paint your room, I would make it a light to medium green. But you can do other things. I still use those foam earplugs, the brand I like are called Flents and I buy them at Wal-Mart. Another thing I do is buy dark blue towels large enough to cover the entire window. I use several thumbtacks to secure them to the wall above the window and wherever they are required to keep as much light out as possible. Keep the drapes closed too. One other option is to install shutters outside your window.

I have worked night shift most of my life. Window treatment I liked best was a fake stained glass film i bought at home depot that looked like grapes. It let a lot of light in in the morning, but it was filtered in soft lavender and green hues..you put it on by getting the glass wet and smoothing with a credit card or drivers license. It was cool. I also installed a mosquito net around my bed, a down mattress cover, down comforter and 4 king sized feather pillows. Even if i woke up I was so comfortable I fell back to sleep and slept like a baby (a happy baby)

You can also try really dark curtains. That's what I use. I am also a third shifter. I used to use construction paper taped to the window. That worked well too.

Put dark liners behind your curtains. If you don't have any get some, one decorative curtain and liners to kill the light. Works for me. Want the sunshine? Open the liners or open everything!

go to walmart and buy black cloth at the craft area, use it to make a cover over your window. just hang it on a rod like any curtain. it is cheap and they have many patterns etc. no black cloth buy black towels and hang them over windows after shower and after you use them to dry . That is what we did in hawaii. you hang your towels over the curtain rod in bathroom. it keeps out heat and light but lets the towel dry in the air ( open the window) KILLS TWO BIRDS

Sure, you can apply window tinting similar to the way people do it for their cars. Look for it at your local hardware store, Lowes, or Home Depot, etc.

they have blackout curtains just for this use. go online or home depot, it's easy to find, and they work great. If you want to go real cheap, just buy one of those eye covers that don't let any light in.
