I'm not sure what to do about this one. I've hidden it forever and am afraid to tell anyone. I thought about telling my friends but I know it would freak them out. Would you tell your therapist and how would you bring it up and how would you say it to her?

You're afraid to tell anyone yet you post this on the internet???? Ok......... ??? sighhhhh

First: It would all depend on what types of voices they are and what they're saying to you! If its something negative for you such as: "A demon wanting you to kill yourself" Yes! tell your therapist about it without going into too many details! Or perhaps some type of priest may have some suggestions for you? There IS help available (aside from drugs, chemicals and/or rubber rooms)! Your "friends" do not need to know about such things and you probably would freak them out.

If its something positive, wherein you would be able to help others by "knowing" certain things or a special type of communication on a different level than most humans. Keep it to yourself, embrace it little by little and learn about it! Use that "gift" but in a manner which wouldn't be abusing it or yourself in the process!!!!

Yes, you have to tell your therapist if you truly want to get better. Therapists are trained to treat this type of thing, and they are non-judgmental. Your therapist will not freak out, she will have heard it before (or heard OF it). I'm sure it would be relatively easy to work this into a therapy session; when discussing some incident where the voices may have played a part, bring them up, rather than talking about the incident and leaving them out (as you have been doing).

Be honest as to why you haven't brought them up before. I am sure that sane people who hear voices are ALWAYS reluctant to bring it up, as people might think you are not sane, when you obviously are sane (you know they're 'voices' and not real). Again, this avoidance of the topic will be familiar to her. If you want to fix your problems, you have to face them. Your therapist cannot help you if she doesn't know the whole truth; you have to tell her.

You need to be more detailed on the voices. We all hear a voice in our head...our conscious... Are the voices spiritual or have an entity attached to them? If this is the case then there is nothing wrong with you.
Are they vicious and telling you things that go against your moral codes? Then I would share this information with your therapist. Make sure you trust them!!! Be prepared to spend at least 48 hours in a psych unit if they are telling you to harm yourself or others. This is mandatory for your own protection.

Is is possible that you are psychic and are hearing the energies from others around you? If this is true then you need to learn how to concentrate and stay within yourself. I am not a pro at this but I do know people who can teach you how to turn this off and on or at least focus it on one person .

Depends what type of therapist you have. Most therapist think that if you hear voices you are schizophrenic adn will diagnose you and give you drugs adn now your in the system. You might be clairvoyant which means that you can hear spirits. In this case the only thing to do is to protect yourself with white light and tell them to stop bothering you.

Otherwise, if you hear voices that are telling you to harm yourself or others then by al means tell your therapist. When you talk to her be clear that you do not want to be diagnosed or be fed meds.

I would recomend going to a spirtiual counselor for this sort of thing. But it's up to you.

Are the voices dangerous? Are they telling you to hurt someone (especially yourself)? Do they actually help with advice or are they just talking? I have had to deal with individuals whose voices were not only anti-social, but downright dangerous. One girl I knew wound up killing herself because the voices told her she was worthless and when she tried telling people about them she was ignored or ridiculed. I also have a friend who will sit and discuss arts and philosophy with one of his voices, but takes medication because another voice he hears scares the crap out of him. (Yes I have some intriguing friends). I personally have a theory that the voices you hear are just snatches of thought from people around you and when the voices are coherent and aren't just confused babble, then your mind is either filtering and creating order out of chaos, or you have actually "locked on" to an individual. In other words, you're at least a receptive telepath. Discuss it with your therapist (hopefully, your therapist has an open mind and can see beyond "acceptable deviation"). If you have a good one, he/she should be able to give you advice on whether or not these voices represent a danger to you or others.

There are some things that you just don't tell a therapist about unless you want to end up in a hospital somewhere. I don't know where you live, but where I live, therapists are in it for the money and don't believe or care about patients. It's sad but true for where I live. Hopefully you live somewhere that people (therapists) are more open-minded. If that is the case, try and ease into telling this to your therapist.

Yes you should tell your therapist. They're not going to care how you tell them just that you do.

She can help you get through the voices thing, she won't freak out like most people would. It's nothing except a disorder. They have medicine they can give you that will take the voices away.

the brain is a very complex organ. It has timed memories and hidden secrets....(follow me on this one). we use so little of our brain that anything else happens in there...we get scared. Your subconscious mind picks up things during the day, that you really don't focus on...have you ever head a story from somewhere and can't remember where...then later it just pops in your brain when you least thinking about it. Or a certian person flashed before your eyes...maybe someone you haven't seen in years. That voice could have been something your brain picked up somewhere and has just processed it. same when someone says something and you can't tell what it was ...then you say oooookkkkkkkkk i got it. it just took sometime to process. If you hear them telling you to do things then you may have a problem...we have all heard something once or twice before. It's the same like whenyou think someone called you, when you asked ,,,they say no...samething, I know this is some secret to carry with you so long, because anything out of the ordinary we are labled crazy. there are so many things happening in our brain that we don't understand....if someone said they heard something or saw something...why not believe them.... even the eyes take time to focus...there are times when the electrical curent that send signals to our processor in the brain can get a small short, that image becomes fuzzy, unreconizable and then we think we saw something out of the ordinary.you might share this with her...just to have someone to share this with. if you are in thearpy for this reason, maybe it affected you somehow, later in life by all means do so. but if you are not, you may have another road to take.....a very big financial one. and you will start to have lables put on you. I do not mean to scare you, sounds like your scared already.....maybe something dramatic happened or a supressed memory of a pass event. if it happened a while ago...i wouldn't let it bother you.

Hearing voices might be caused by:

You are perceptive to those spirits that have no body that want or need to communicate something. It is natural when you die you will have no body and still will want to communicate with others.

The other reason is the mind is a mechanism that we use to solve problems in life, specially when things are boring we create a mechanism to deal automatically with it ( driving, eating etc) some people would create a mechanism to talk to because of lonesome, and now think hear voices.- It is not abnormal just realize when you did it, if so.

How serious is your therapist about your care?
Has she/he helped you in the past?

Define voices: Is it your conscious or your thought processes taking on word form?

Are you hearing voices that request things of you, demand things of you, or just pose ideas?

Are they good voices are they bad voices?
Good voices are good things do tell your therapist what you hear.
Bad voices tell you bad things tell your therapist if you have a serious long term (several months) relationship with the therapist?
