Life has many explanations.
Some say that it is the action of gradually dying.
Others say that it is the action of being born and continuing to survive through such atrosities as being a baby, a teen, an adult, and an elder. Often it is cut short by random happenings.
Then you get into the purpose of life:
This is extremely controvesial and has long been the purpose of philosophers.
Christians say that our purpose is to serve God and see that others do likewise.
Buddhists say that our purpose is to reach enlightenment.
Hindus say that we are to strive for perfection until we get it right.
The Greek Philosophers never really decided what it is, but instead decided that such a question could never be answered with ONE answer.
A slight few have decided that the purpose of life is to be the pawns of a sadistic higher power who truly gets a kick out of our pain and troubles.
Believe which one you want, but the question was What IS life, not what is its purpose.

Life is a chance for us to enjoy the physical world and all the pleasures there in because while we live here in our bodies we are spiritual creatures and as such some things can only be experienced here as we live out our lives. Most people have forgotten that the purpose of life is to live it or maybe that should be to LIVE IT. got it, Good now get it

God Bless
Human beings are created with the capacity - and the need - for relationship with their Creator. Without a connection with God, we aren't really alive. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." It's like you're already dead, but knowing Jesus is life-giving, like being born a second time. Eternal life begins now: it is the kind of life Jesus lived as he walked on earth, demonstrating the love of God through teaching, healing and works of compassion. Jesus said, "Anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these."
