I'm going to college and I wanted to bring certain sheets but I'm not sure if they will fit. For anybody that has lived in college dorms with extra long twin mattresses and tried to use regular sheets, what's your experience?

No, you'll need to buy the specific fitted sheets made for that size bed. Go to any bedding store and they should offer the single sheets that you're looking for. They're a few inches longer than regular singles.

The fitted sheet probably won't, but the flat sheet probably won't matter, as long as it covers YOU. The difference is only about six inches or so.

Your roommate will probably try to short-sheet your bed, anyways...

The flat sheet will be fine, but the fitted sheet won't work.

No, it will not. Go to Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart and purchase sheets specfically made for a long twin mattress. You'll be glad you did, if you do not, you'll have sheet issues all semester.
