ABSOLUTELY ! The best on the market is AMSOIL. Proven ( in real world applications and laboratory tests ) better all around protection than offered by ANY OTHER leading synthetic, INCLUDING Mobil 1, Castrol, Royal Purple, Pennzoil, Golden Spectrum and more. Here's the link for the test results:

http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g2156.pdf

If these test results were innaccurate then why hasn't the "competition" rebutted it ? Because they CAN'T !

Just as Mobil 1 is more expensive than, lets say Pennzoil, AMSOIL is only SLIGHTLY more expensive than Mobil 1 ( if you check out the link that I am providing and the pricing, note that cases of AMSOIL are 12 QUARTS unlike others that are cases of 6 QUARTS ) but, the overall savings are significant in terms of less overall maintenance costs ( you only have to change your oil and filter once a year using AMSOIL ), Higher MPG ( I gained 1 - 2 MPG since using AMSOIL ), lower operating temperature, less engine noise and virtually NO wear of lubricated parts ( meaning your vehicle lasts longer too ).

Most people won't look past the shelf at Walmart or their local auto parts store when shopping for oil but, anyone who has tried AMSOIL ( not just claimed to have tried ) , including myself, has stayed with AMSOIL. Check out some of these endorsements and testimonials ( Each of these links opens a page to a list of individual testimonials ).

Where are the testimonials from the "competition" ? WalMart is no testimonial. Use the information here and decide for yourself. Want to see everything that AMSOIL has to offer for your vehicle ?

Synthetic oil IS better oil. It has more additives and it provides double the lubricant. It's also good for the hot and cold temperatures. It just has over all more protection for your engine. But if you don't want to pay that much for oil, the High Mileage oil is good as well. it's for cars with 75,000 miles or over It reduces oil loss and diminishes leaks and has that extra protection for the engine. I hope this helps you out in any way. Using a better oil will keep your car in good working order. Good Luck.

Synthetic oil technically is better in that all of the oil molecules are a uniform size, as opposed to organic oil. "High Mileage" oil is a gimmick that can damage you engine seals. High mileage oil contains additives that "recondition" oil seals. Basically the oil is kept in you engine at points by rubber seals and hasten the need for repair. The additives in high mileage oil cause the seals in the engine to swell, which can reduce leaking in worn seals and delay repair. In a more or less "healthy" seal, you will subject it to a chemical process that could potentially damage it by swelling it needlessly against the rotating members it rides against. I think it is basically a gimmick that makes oil for your older car cost more. The oil is at best, as good as plain oil and could perhaps hurt more than help.

High mileage oils are just a bunch of marketing mumbo jumbo...... though they are good, they have retained the additive levels the new gf4 oils have dropped. SOME are thicker then they're counterparts..... except valvolines.

It always helped mine run better and pass smog tests - until my head gasket blew, but I'm sure the two are unrelated.....
