To become a reverse engineer you actually have to be a regular engineer. Reverse engineers just specialize in reverse engineering. It's simply doing the work in the opposite way, most logical definition of the job. You are given an item and a set of specs. You have to draw up the plans and have them drafted, then build a prototype baseline. Test your protoype baseline for quality assurance purposes and correct any problems or flaws with the design. It's a pretty cool process to be involved in.

Ride a bike backwards? You could learn the process of reverse engineering in an engineering course, or design course. It's also used in advanced science studies.
