sure many people, I started at age 55 and it was a lot of fun. I was so much smarter than the other freshmen it was easy to get A on a curve.
the older you are the more you like it. I was older than many professors and could argue with them about history that I had lived through and they only read about, ( they really loved that. NOT! ) ha ha
go for it. you will like it.
I got my degree in philosophy at the University of Hawaii at Hilo

I think you are going to be happy to know a good percentage of people over 30 go to college.
I received my BA when I was 38 along with a teaching credential, then went on to get an MA and then a certification when I was 43.
You will find learning much more enjoyable being older. Forget about others, you are doing this for you and it is great, you won't regret it. In fact, you'll wonder why you didn't go sooner! Enjoy!!!

My younger brother started when he was 41 (a state university). He kind of liked being "older," since he had a different perspective in a lot of ways from the younger students and could actually understand some things more quickly and more completely. He did feel "left out" from time to time, but only from things he would have wanted to be left out of anyway! He got to be the "older brother" to a few guys, which I think felt good to him. Good luck and have fun, if it is you headed off to college!

You will do fine in school. It might be a little uncomfortable. but you will be OK. There are a lot more adults attending college so, you might not be the only adult student in class . The hardest thing is making the decision to go back. You should know by now that you are not there to make an impression on your fellow students you are there make a difference in you life. Good Luck! I am sure you will do fine.

My grandma is 70 and just got a 2 year degree. Seriously. She'll probably never get a job or use her education, I think she was just really bored after my grandpa died and needed something to do with her time. (And people to be trapped in a room with her for hours at a time so they'd be forced to listen to her blabber on and on and on about NOTHING!) She was nervous about it, but she's very outgoing (most say TOO outgoing).
I'm only in my mid 20s and I went back to school for a short time, and there were lots of people older than me in my classes, some of them with kids my age. I think in this day and age, because of an unstable economy and job layoffs, or people putting education on hold to raise a family, it's very common for 'older' people to go back to school.

More and more people are doing so much these days and going to college to learn what they can is a great part of feeling freedom. The more focus you have the more you will feel comfortable. People are not numbers. You are what you do.:)

Yes, and if you're worried about fitting in....stop worrying.
You'll find you're only one, of many, "older" adults.
If you take night classes, or the week-end classes that many colleges offer, you'll find even more people in your age group (and older).
Age isn't a big issue in a college setting.

yes, i do feel comfortable in that setting. and the younger students do not know as much as i do. you learn more because you have already been in their shoes, and they do not have a clue of what to expect in life. age is an advantage. some teachers appreciate you in their class, and understand and admire the effort you give in their class.
