It is a hitting cycle, not pitching cycle.

In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a "natural cycle".

The feat is rare in Major League Baseball as it requires a game of no fewer than four hits, and the unusual combination of a home run, which requires a batter to hit for some power, and a triple, which requires a batter to have some speed on the basepaths. Thus, "hitting for the cycle" demonstrates excellence in three of the five "tools" of baseball (see five-tool player). The accomplishment is held in high enough esteem that players needing only a single to "complete the cycle" have been known to "hold up" at first base on balls hit in the alley. There are only 3 teams to never hit the cycle – the San Diego Padres, Florida Marlins and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The last person who hit the cycle:
June 21, 2006 José Reyes New York (NL)

Um, your answerer who talked of pitching for the cycle earlier, is an idiot. There is no such term, nor any such stat, at least not an official stat. It doesnt even make sense, a hitter has 4or 5 at bats to come up with a single, double, triple, and homerun. A pitcher would have to face at least 18 batters, assuming he pitched at least 6 innings. I have heard cheesy baseball analysts try to "coin" stupid phrases like that, in reference to a pitcher giving up all 4 different hits in a single inning, perhaps this is where you heard that phrase.

it is when a pitcher allows a single, double, triple, and home run all in the same game... not a good thing...hitting for the cycle good but not pitching for the cycle...BTW those other people don't really know what they are talking about, along with many others here

It's hitting for the cycle not pitching. It means to get a single, double, triple and homerun all in one game.

i think it's supposed to be hit for the cycle and it means: a single, double, triple, and home run hit by the same player in one game..if pitching for a cycle makes sense then it means one pitcher gave up a single, double, triple, and home run.. http://www.enlexica.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi baseball dictionary search cycle
