No, that's why it's there. The Bible is the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow. If everybody would go by it, the way it is intended; we would have a much better world.
The manual for your car or anything else may have been written awhile back, but it is still applicable. It is your Guidebook.

Actually, there was some good reasons as to why ancient civilizations did not eat certain kinds of meats. The Bible did not say to not eat any kind of meats only a few that were called 'unclean.'
Besides just following Gods will, the fact that foods were declared unclean was that it was really a health risk. Pork was very bad to eat as it needed to be very well cooked to kill the organisms that were dangerous to humans as well. It was called 'unclean' mostly to just preserve the health of the Hebrew people that God wanted to protect! This is still very good advice today, but you are right there is less to be concerned about with our modern advances.
None the less, this is only one example, there were many practices back then that were not very good practices that the Bible shunned and with good reason. All of the things were health risks, poor ways to treat people or just common sense things to do. The Bible was not some thing that is had no value to anyone, many find that its wisdom is still very valuable today.
Everyone has there own opinion about things. I will admit that even some Christians are not always right. No one should just accept what is said as fact, but the Bible has some very important lesson both spiritual and non-spiritual. All it takes is some digging into things and you will see that there is more to it then 'thou shalt nots.....!'

If you mean, that people might somehow use the bible to back up the idea that gay marriage should be outlawed through an amendment to the United States Constitution...
Then I'd say that the hateful little biggots should all be deported, until they figure out that the world does not revolve around them and their personal, and very convenient, values.
"The institution of marriage being under attack" by allowing guys to get married. You have got to be kidding me.
When did having equal rights become a zero sum game? "OH CRAP honey! Our marriage isn't worth a damn anymore because same-sex couples can be married too!"
I know that probably nobody who believes this sort of thing actually thought about it. They just agreed with their peer group. Of course, it's ironic that they want to to change the constitution, the document that protect the rights of minorities.
I can't express how much it saddens me that in America. A country which claims to hold freedom so dear. We find all kinds of support for taking away others rights, and I bet I'd find very little relative support for say, an amendment that declares that no consenting adults can be denied the right to get married and legally commit themselves to each other.
Life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness. I thought we used to think this was important. Now it seems to be: "whatever I want, whatever I want, and whatever I want"
And, now I'll stop ranting. Don't blame me, blame stupid legislation.

Well, if it is dangerous to follow religious texts that are thousands of years old, then it is dangerous to follow philosophical texts that are thousands of years old. What about something that is 100 years old? What you don't understand is that the bad view of religions that you get is from a small minority of religious people. Most people use religion as a way to better themselves. How is that bad or dangerous? Why is it dangerous to want to be a better person? Why is it dangerous to say that there is something bigger than yourself? Yes, there are people who do bad things in the name of religion, but those are the acts of people, not acts dictated by religious laws. The majority of how we think and are taught to think today is based off of ancient cultures, both philosphy and religion.

In all cultures and for as far back as anthropologists can study, people use spiritual guides as guides for life. It's not stupid - it's common. Its only a very recent occurance for people to not use some sort of supernatural force to guide them through life.
All I'm saying (and don't cry or anything) but maybe you're the stupid one? I mean really - if you were someone else looking at your choices in how you rationalize your life choices, you could be calling THAT stupid. You need to be able to give up your ethnocentric ways (look it up if needbe) and realize that it's narrow-minded and ignorant to judge how other people justify themselves. If they want to use spirits and supernaturals, then they are doing something that humans have been doing for thousands of years and still do in almost every walk of life around the world. Chill out.

I have no problem with people believing in the bible, and doing good works. The problen is that they don't. They look into and read what they want, to back up any weird belief they have.
No matter the subject, and usually one that didn't even exist when the bible was written, often three to four hundred years after the events, they write about.
And why do they insist that we all follow their beliefs, I don't force mine on them, but they come knocking on my doors, so that they can spill their thoughts on me.
Time they grew up and got a life of their own, but that would mean they would have to actually think for themselves.

Why believe in other writings then??? Your point is that you shouldn't believe in something that is old. What happens when your children's children are believing in Darwin's "Origin of Species"....are you going to tell them not to believe in it because it is old. The point is mute.
That's like saying, "Don't believe that fire will burn you" because it is an ancient fact passed down through centuries and milleniums.
It's called faith.
And by the way...it clearly says in the New Testament, that the old law has been abolished and that we can eat meat now.

I completely agree, the bible was meant to be a "guide" to life but so many people use it literally. Thats when things get messy. Its an ancient book of fairy tales and when times change religion need to as well.

The bible is the ultimate handbook to life, everything you will ever need to know is in the bible.....it is more dangerous to NOT take the bible seriously.
