First thing first. I don't like it no more then anyone else does, I think it's wrong and inhumane. But you asked "why" so here it is. It's easy to turn a blind eye to the suffering of others. Especially when that other is one of your biggest trading partners and your scared to death of it's military. "Could" we do something to stop it? Yes, we could. What is the first thing we could do to stop it? The first thing America does when it doesn't like what another country does to it is to impose sanctions. If we impose sanctions on China it would put our economy into recession and probably close to depression. Then after we take the big chunk out of our pockets were going to really piss China off. There are at least 6 Chinese for every American and they have access to every Soviet weapon ever made. They have a very large very well equipped military and pissing them off is something we really don't want to do. But it comes down to the money first. America is the richest country in the world and if that means letting babies die in Communist countries to protect our wealth then that's exactly what we will do. Did we go to war with the Soviet Union when Stalin was killing millions of his own people? No. Do we go to war in Africa where million's of people die every year? No.We'll go to war with small and insignificant countries when it's convenient for us but picking on a bully that's just as big as you are is something else. WWI and WWII were exceptions but we weren't protecting our pocket books then. We were protecting the world. Besides they started it.

The male child is valued, the female is not, that has been the traditon since God only knows when. Deep seated traditions like that are hard to get rid of and the world does not like to interfere in traditions that are only effecting those with in that country. There is a lot that the world turns a blind eye to today, and ever since man got kicked out of The Garden and it will untill He returns to set things right.

Because for every female child who dies, the population problem in China gets just a little better. I don't agree with letting poor little girls die, but that is their government and you are only allowed one child there even it it is a boy. If you have any more, they take them away from the parents. What happens to them after that, I haven't a clue.

The Chinese are supposed to love their families so much and even just about worship grandparents and everything, but then they do that to poor innocent children. It is really a bad thing.

All tho I do find this disturbing and shamefull. You do realize that this story is from the late 80's early 90's. To put a good date on it Connie Chung also did a special on it and she's been gone for how long now?
And China wasn't the only place to have orphanages with such horrible conditions.

it is awful, in the early 90's they would just trow them over a Cliff. The government encourages 1 child family to stave off the population growth and of course male children are preferred. Why do we do the same in the U.S? I say it is because of greedy politics and the lust for money. It's time to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate. Give, and ye shall receive!
