You could say, 'I was abused, both verbally and physically.'
I don't know though.

Only a dog bites. A self-respecting person will only be hit, scold or treat like a dog by only a dog - figuratively putting.

Nice try, get the audience to do all the work for you.
OK, just for you, just this one time.
"He showed me he loved me and really cared but some times I was bad and he had to yell at me to help me do the right thing for him and some times when I really messed up he had to hit me to bet me back in line. I know he loves me cause he cares so much. He just wants me to do what's right and some times I mess up and he has to be firm with me." And that's why she doesn't run away.

He hits me, he scolds me; it's like he thinks I'm his dog or something.

He smacks me, he scolds me--what am I, his dog?

I defer to Patty Loveless

"Blame it on your lying, cheating
cold, dead-beating,
two-timing, double-dealing
mean, mistreating
loving heart."

The short version.
