You don't drive through the building to pick up your food, but you do drive up to the window to get your food. Why is this?

we'll i suppose its because the dumb @$$ invented the drive threw window was on drugs ! ya have to drive up to the window so ya have to go threw it to pick up dang just get you Lazy @$$e$$ out and walk in !

Why do they call it a Drive-In when you are really Parked-In?

In response to your question - technically you can drive through the building, but really, would you really want to do that? I mean, all of the debris and smoke would make your food taste pretty disgusting.

Because you are driving through a specific lane on the side of the building. Some even have little covers.

bc unless you just drive up and stay there for the rest of your life than eventually you have to "drive-THRU"......lol
