Use CD-R disks if you want to keep something permanently and CD-RW disks if you want to be able to put more stuff on it or erase something you put on it.

With the RW disks, I would not try to rewrite to them more than a couple of times because you might lose some of the sound integrity with multiple erasures.

YES it DOS matter! You will find that cd- is more compatible with all burners. Keep in mind that bargain basement cds arent worth it either. You will be money ahead buying name brand.
