are they trully incompatable, they are both just attempts at answer human questions, right? then why do some believe that they should never be in agreement? Take for example, evolution and creative design is it impossible for both to have occured? there are things that we will never truly understand.

Neither side will admit they are wrong? OK I can see that pride would get in they way for some. But in all seriousness how do they contrdict each other? I honestly admit i know very little about either subject, and I probably just invited a whole mess of comments there oh well don't care, but what i do know seems compatable to me. what are your thoughts.

Because they directly contradict each other on many points, and neither side will ever admit that they could possibly be wrong.

Science and religion should never cross because the ideas both contradict each other. They would never be in agreement because one says that god is the creator of everything and at the same time, another is saying that time is what created the whole universe "without time, there is nothing." Science says that evolution is the answer to the human questions while religion says that God is the answer to the human questions. If evolution actually occurred, then where does God come in hand?

They contradict each other to the point where everyone is offended. for instance, people who believe in God don't generally like the idea that the universe is mostly unexplained, and that there are so many other possiblities that could in fact contradict the Biblem. It can alter the way people learn about their religion. People don't want to be told that evolution took place over thousands and thousands of years, when all their lives and through the history of their religion, it is believed that mankind was created in one day/step. This is where intelligent design comes in, and the religious people try to compromise, and get their way taught in schools. However, intelligent design has nothing to do with science, really, so there will always be an argument concerning that. THIS IS WHY YOU MUST LEARN ABOUT THE FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER (ok, you don't have to, but just check it out.)

it discusses the relation between school and religion and introduces a new compromise....lol.

I think the answer is that religious beliefs will prevent a religious person from having an open mind to science.

Science deals with facts and theories based on facts. Religion deals with faith in something nobody can prove exists or even happened using science or any other means other than faith itself.

Science could be used to prove or disprove religious beliefs. I think religious people don't want that because it could prove their beliefs to be false, and most people couldn't handle that emotionally.

I believe it is possible that God could exist. But to believe he created the entire universe is just stupid. The reason I say that is because if there was no universe he could not have existed, either. And if God is real, as described in the Bible, then he could not have any concept of what life is. Any being that has always existed and always will cannot be born or die, therefore has no concept of life and death. How can you create life if you don't know what it is.

If God is real, and we evolved, then the writings in the Bible are mostly false. So if there is a God, he could be nothing like what modern religion believes, and the Bible itself could be a result of the biggest lie in history.

I think a lot of beliefs are based on cause and effect, too. For example, say you prayed for something, and the next day you got it. Wouldn't you assume that God gave it to you? Of course you may not consider that praying just told your subconcious mind what you needed, and your own mind got it for you. That's cause and effect.

They cannot cross. Religion depends on belief, which people confuse with faith (belief is a fixed idea; faith is an open trust not dependant on "answers"). Science depends on faith in a way; it entrusts itself to questioning, to propositions open to debate; to evidence. It has nothing to protect except the process of scientific inquiry itself. On the other hand, religion must protect its fundamental beliefs, such as the existance of some "higher power" with its own awareness and intent. Evolution doesn't depend on such a higher power. It proposes that all that has evolved is a natural possible outcome of chemistry, physics, the "forces" of nature from its beginning, whatever that was. "Creative design" proposes an intentional creative process, which may have involved evolution but was set in train by some identifiable singularity. Yes there are almost (see the scientific "faith") certainly things we will never understand - but religion, with its assumptions and dogma, only stands in the way of us really seeing the awesome wonder in what we can see of the universe, and the adventure of exploring it, and ourselves.

well, if the religion in question claims that the earth is 6-10,000 years old, and science claims 4.5 billion; if the religion claims that humankind were created directly without having evolved from other species and science claims that they did evolve from other species, it is kind of difficult to say that they could both be true. On some things religion and science can be in agreement about, especially if the religion is speaking in metaphorical terms. But if both are using literal language and are saying contradictory things, there can be no hope of reconciliation.

They are different because science is put through hard work, studies, and discoveries. Religion is just from stories, paintings, and people who make stories and are not close with science. We must all choose which side to be on because they will never join. When one side proves things right, then the other side will fall. That is not likely to happen though.

they will always cross. a scientist uses logic to explain the order of the universe and all sorts of things around us. how could this be if it were not created by a higher intelligence (religion). if all came about as some think, from complete chaos, how do you explain the beauty of physics and the rules that govern it and that the physicists swear by? they always go back to the laws of physics, now don't they?

One is based on logic/facts and the other beliefs/faith!
How does one suppose the two can ever agree on each ones basis...they say creation...the other says evolution!?
There will always be the unexplainable and things we'll never trully understand--Miracle...Phenomenon--
same difference-different way to say it!They can't even agree on that.....science will say-inexplicable/unaccountable...
religion will say-Allah/Buddah/God....
whatever...

Science were created by God and human explore them. Religions were created by human with hope to understand God. The scientists discover, the believers found faith. It is also true that many scientist started with faith.
