My friend's supervisor is a 64 year old male. He keeps spreading vicious gossip about my friend(34 year old attractive female) behind her back. What is his problem?

she turned him down, so he's taking revenge.
Maybe switch jobs or report him to harassment office.

He is quite possibly threatened by your friend. This is a guy at the end of his career and he fear losing his position or maybe even his status at work. If the supervisor has a supervisor, your friend should start documenting what is going on and she should take that documentation and discuss it with them. If he doesn't have a supervisor, she needs to talk to Human Resources.

Something tells me that this dude has had his advances shot down and is reverting to covert character assasination as retalliation---some people are made that way ---their little egos get offended and they go to work trying to do someone in by little weasel works behind the scenes

Jealousy? All I know is if I were her, I'd start keeping a log and then speak with him about it. If he retaliates or doesn't cease, then I'd bring it up with HIS boss or Human Resources and provide them with the log of when what happened. That's unprofessional and unacceptable behaviour.

Bad character gets worst as we get older- as I was told. If something happened ...wouldn't your friend have shared it with you already? She should confront him...with someone present...like the big boss.

he probably wants to date her and doesn't want anybody else to get with her. I f not that he is just miserable and needs to get a life. She should report him to a higher source.
