"It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first."

- Ronald Reagan

Any comments? And do you know what it implies?

hadenough you have a great gift of discernment. Reagan had big b***s and a huge amount of courage, oh and a great capacity for truth. Ya he said it, I remember the day, my father stopped breathing for a second, lol. People, when we pay the "piper" for the right and priveldge to live, we're no less than your common so called whores and those who pay for them. Are we not buying a service? Oh ya I forgot, it's called "taxes". Whatever! I pay the whore 20% of my bi-weekly pay for the right to live free. So who is the real whore? That would be my next question. The next would be; What exactly does "free" mean these days?

I believe Ronald Reagan said it and I think there is some truth to the statement.

The oldest profession he talked about is prostitution, the selling of one's most personal aspect for money, a necesity. In the case of politics, I believe Reagan was saying you have to be willing to use your convictions, to trade them away in order to get something else that you need or want..

Yes and for once I agree with Reagan. The first and oldest profession, is considered to be Prostitution, which is selling oneself. And as Politicians often do that, or their soul, you can see how right Reagan was.

I've never heard that or know if he really said it. I would think it implies that politics is selling out to the highest bidder just like the first oldest profession (prostitution).

as far as I know, Politics is the way/strategy to aim someone's ambition. So globally it's not always about related to the government.
The politician is the person who do the politics.
If you explain something to other people to get them in the same opinion as yours, then you do politics.
So I agree to what mr. Reagan said. Politics is very very very old, it had been used by the first man on earth.

Well, I guess it could mean politicians take our money (through taxes) and we get screwed. (I hope I was still vague even to not break any guidelines.)

Interesting that a politician would say that, but they say lots of things, especially during election years.
