It depends on what you call a pet, and a bit about definition. I think Koko the gorilla has a pet cat. Some ants will raise aphids underground and milk them for food. They feed the aphids leaves.

Pets are derived from a mutual relationship between man and another creature, although pets are now kept as companions, primarily. Dogs ( for example) in work are still active, for instance: sheepdogs, rescue canines, police canines, etc. This symbiotic relationship has been observed in other creatures.

Gerald Durrel wrote about his monkey who adopted two toads and was very fond of them and took real care of their well-being (one of the books about his Cameroon expeditions). also people who have diferent pets report on their mutual relationships. so i would say yes rather than no. Man is definitely not the only creature able to show some feelings, to like or care about othe creature.

Ants keep aphids as pets. I don't know why. It's kind of weird now that I think about it, but it's true.
