In its greatest dimension, its 93 miles from one side to the other.

If I remember correctly, it is about a 3 hour drive from Hilo to Kona, either way. The roads are very windy for much of the drive, that is why it takes so long. Was there for 5 weeks this winter and had to drive to Kona several times to see the sun.

Looking at this map in front of me, I'd say about 10 inches...
actually... call it 100 miles tip to tip
