I think ESPN/ABC's commentators are pretty poor on the whole. Marcella Balboa and his partner are definitely the worst in my opinion. John Harkes is a good guy, but not so hot on commentary. What do you think?

they are TERRIBLE. I agree balboa and obrien are the worst. Obrien (marcello's partner) is a baseball comentator and this, The WORLD CUP, is his first time commentating soccer. He is better than balboa though.

Earlier today balboa was ripping david beckham and saying how he never really liked him, then as soon as beckham scores, balboa starts saying how good he is. He is also very biased towards the USA. When the US was still in the tournament they would always talk about the upcoming US game in the middle of unrelated games.

Also very annoying are the huge graphics the put on the screen and block the action.

I agree with the guy above who says watch the univison. You can learn some spanish while watching, and they have so much more passion for the game: "GOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!"

However, lets not rip all of the ABC Espn commentators, becuase i really enjoy listening to Adrian Healy and Tommy Smith (the english and irish guys). They are knowledgable and passionate. Compared to the others, they are a joy to listen to. Unfourtenatly, they get the less important games and for some reason Obrien and Balboa are considered the Lead Brodacsters and they get all of the "premier" games.

Yep, the ESPN/ABC commentary here in the US is terrible. Neither of them know **** about football (soccer), especially what happens in Europe and South America.

I could not stand this part, in particular: during the ARG vs MEX game, when the Argentinian coach brought in Lionel Messi and another substitute to replace Crespo & Cambiasso, one of the commentators said "so Argentina plan to relax their old experienced players for the young kids who have never played international soccer. That's how they plan to win this game!"

Now wait a second, does he even know who Messi is & what he has accomplished? He is a regular for the Spanish giant Barcelona who have won the Spanish League, Spanish Cup & the Chamipions League, and Messi has been an important part of their success.

If you don't know anything about a person whom you want to pass a comment on, you better keep your trap shut! 'cause you know nothing!

I could switch to Univision, but their broadcast quality is pathetic & the sound is terrible!

Solution: watch UNIVISION in Spanish! Even if you do not understand the language, they are knowledgeable and funny!
