Public toilet seats are actually quite safe. I've read a number of studies and performed bacteria cultures of my own, and it's an inhospitable environment for disease. As long as there is nothing wet on the seat (and then, even so, as most urine is sterile and you'd have to be direly ill to have a raging infection that could be passed through urine), it's cold with no food source so most bacteria can't survive there.
There is really no way to get a disease from a public toilet, unless a person with raging gono-chlamyda-syhphili-herpe-A I D S urinated all over the seat or someone defacated on the seat (in which case, you would see it), then you sat down immediately in it while it was still warm and wiggled around to make sure it got into all of your crevices.
It's a horrible thought, but really, do a bacteria culture.

Itchyowee123 - you're kidding! The tank will give way!
I know someone years back, who squatted on the seat which then broke under him and he had a very bad cut on his ankle plus 2 years of embarassment in college.
People make a mess in public rest room because in this age of consumerism, social norms like bothering for the next person is no longer on people's mind. Also - maybe they just ran out of paper to clean up!

Yeah, man. I guess they don't watch Mythbusters, otherwise they'd find that the toilet seat is cleaner than most other household surfaces. If they're still so paranoid, why don't they use the paper seat covers or lay down some toilet paper over the surface of the seat, and like you said, clean up after themselves. The work crew can't be in to clean it every second of the day.

I don't like to sit on them either, but I usually just use the tissue paper toilet seat covers provided by most establishments or cover the seat with paper. Growing up with 2 brothers and all their friends in the house, I had my fair share of sitting on a pee covered seat so I wouldn't want to pass that feeling on to anyone.

for the most part you arent going to use the same public restroom twice in the same day unless you are at work. so if i pee on the seat and leave its not my problem after i walk out of that bathroom.

I hate that too, but I also hate when people come to your house and pee on the seat, or guys pee everywhere and they dont clean up after themselves

its a public room, nothing we can do. everywhere there are people who does not want to be responsible, even you ask the staff to clean it..they would only ignore your request...
so what you see is what you get.. as long as it does not gross and full of s---t.. I don't mind at all.. i might as well thanks for the relief and try to clean the way it should be..

I agree with you. I think they should start putting disposable seat covers in public bathrooms and there won't be problems like this anymore.

People just don't care. Especially being a girl I don't even see how that's possible to get any on the seat.
