I am breastfeeding. My baby was crying for 6 hours. I know the food I eat affects my baby through my milk. What about my emotional swings - can it cause my baby to be fussy and anxious too?

The breast milk has nothing to do with it.
Babies are very sensitive to your emotions. She or he feels your vibes just from your touch or the sound of your voice.
The ACT of breastfeeding is what gets the little one upset, because you have to HOLD your baby to breastfeed. This is when the baby gets the feedback.
I hope you can calm down somehow before feeding time, maybe you could also play some soft music and sing to the wee one at this time.
This should help.
Good luck
Hope

No, it can't. Have you ever donated blood? Do they have a space on the form for "Are you in a bad mood today?" No...you know why? Because bad moods are *not* in the blood. Milk is made from blood. If it's not in the blood, it's not getting into your milk. End of story.

However, you *can* transmit stress or bad moods face to face regardless of whether you are nursing or not. If your baby seems to be in a bad mood when you are, it's probably because she/he *sees* you in a bad mood.

In fact, the hormones released when you start nursing actually *lower* stress. So, if you *are* in a bad mood, you and your baby are both better off nursing. You'll calm down somewhat, your baby will get some of the hormones from your milk and calm down, and she/he will see you calmer and not have as much of a reaction.

Lastly, the *vast* majority of babies will *not* be affected by what the mother eats. Allergies are relatively rare, and it is even rare for a baby to react to something that the mother eats than something she/he eats directly.

Yes, some hormones can be passed through the breastmilk, however, it is more likely that your baby is sensing your mood swings and that is causing him to be anxious, not the breastmilk. Try to do what you can to take care of yourself. Your baby is too young to self soothe...therefore he gets his cues for soothing from mommy - if mommy is agitated, then the baby cannot be soothed and feels anxious. So, do what you can to take care of yourself...consider therapy if you are open to it, or just doing what you can on your own to control your mood swings.

No, not through breast milk . Most likely, you are a little tense & so your baby, like most humans who can detect when someone near them is tense, picks this up & it's affected her/him. You've got to try and relax. Enjoy the sensation of feeding your baby. Take warm baths & have warm compresses all over your body.

Your stress hormones can affect your baby. Give the little person some credit for intuitively knowing and relax. Listen to some pleasant music, have some chamomile tea.

no not through the milk, but the baby may notice your mood swings and it will affect him since he is link maternally to you, but every baby reacts differently.

the baby can't digest emotion but does hear when mommy is upset or happy. you arent transmitting negativity in the milk but through your emotions baby can tell you are upset and finds this upsetting for themselves
