It was a great game. I thought the red cards were unjustified, and it kinda ruined the match. Although many think it was fair reffing, bad on both sides, I disagree. When, I think it was Figo, who was shoved badly from behind, and a dutch player recieved a yellow, it should have been red. That kind of act is uncalled for, it doesnt matter what just happened. Also, I believe Deco's second yellow was very unfair, he made an effort to give them the ball, really wasnt delaying the play at all, and the dutch player damn near tackled him, and what made this worse was that the player didnt even get carded. Both of those should have been reds towards the Dutch. I think thats when the match really lost control, because if you can grab someone, jerk them around, and take the ball, without any punishment, in fact even a reward, you know something is wrong.

That match was vicious! I think that it turned ugly because 1) both of the teams are highly competitive, and 2) because the referee was extremely incompetent. However, the players should have played in a maturer manner, and not have beaten themselves bloody. Even though Portugal won the game, two (possibly three) of its greater players, will not be included in the next match vs. England. In the end, though, the match was really exciting :)

neither because the referees are generally making it a philosophy to be very strict with the rule, something that is not often done because it disrupts the flow of a very physical game..i think they were told to do this by FIFA however, a few of the refs made few calls when necessary and those games were the best..earlier in the cup i even remember a call when the other guy was saying he had not been fouled..and in yet another the whole world saw that the player at lost his footing while the ref thought he had dived..i wonder if they have replay camera though because if they don't they have an excuse as they don't see what we see

The thing is these two country started a little rivalry since the Euro in 04. This game was brutal because the referee was kind of awful, but the players were putting up real dirty tackles. This is the making of a new rivalry in the world of soccer.

It is part of the game to push and shove, tackle and get hurt, but i agree that it started to become disgusting ... the ref only had 1set of eyes so i don't think he spotted every fight and if he did there would have been more yellow and red cards but that game was embarrassing for both teams

Both teams did not deserve to lose that game. Hard fought, great game. There's not much the ref could have done. Stop blaming them. Everyone was getting testy because there's so much on the line. I feel bad for Holland.

This is how a lot of soccer games in the World Cup become. It's just part of the competitive nature.
