I am about to start a new job on the 5th but I already have some appointments for my kid that I can't miss. they are a dental appointment and it takes months to get the appts. i also have to take him to school to get his class list and do all of the paperwork(first year in middle school)

Do I tell them that I have these appts already and hope they don't get peed off at me. It is a very family friendly place to work. It is a car dealership and they already said that everyone has children and they are pretty lenient with Dr. appts and stuff but, I am worried that I will be starting off on the wrong foot.

Yes! The sooner the better. Most employers today are quite flexible when it comes to family, and your employer will appreciate the advance notice.

I've had this problem with new jobs before. Most places have no problem when you let them know as soon as you accept the job that you have previous commitments scheduled. Unless you have an extremely generous employer you won't get paid time off, but most will give you the time without any problems.

Honesty will win out every time. Your employers have laid the groundwork by sharing with you the standards of practice for family so why are you hesitant.

Be honest and be considerate without abusing the privilege and good luck with your job.
