You can try the Oxford English Dictionary (also called "the OED"). Your library might have a subscription to it that you can get to electronically.

What's nice about it is that the sentences are referenced not only by the sense of the word (say the word you're looking at has three definitions), but also gives you dated examples of the word in use. Often those examples are famous ones that will help you know how to use the word correctly.

There aren't any pictures, though.

What you're looking for is called an encyclopedic dictionary. It usually contains thorough explainations, as well as lots of pictures. Webster prints a good one. Try the link below!
