When I turn my computer on the floppy doesn't work. But at start up it says, "Floppy Disk Fail (40)." How can I fix this problem?

Floppy Disk fail (40) means your floppy disk drive is not working
the best thing to do is to replace the drive. However, floppy drives are becoming obsolete very fast and the manufacturer may not provide customer support for floppy drives. The best thing to do is buy a Jump drive. Jump drive holds much more data, it is plug and play, its portable and its a better investment. You can a cheap one at any electronic store.

-Good luck-

ok.. hope you know what you are doing or else get a TECHNICIAN!
First, check under control panel that floppy is enabled. (easy fix)
Second. Press 'Del' when system is starting up to enter the system bios. (F10? on DEL I think? anyway, it is F8,F9 or F10 for sure if the DEL doesnt work to get you to bios. Be sure you have the floppy listed as a device. if not, enable it, and look for 'floppy seek at start-up) (more complicated)
3rd turn off the computer. open it. check that the power is plugged into the floppy disk. check that the ribbon cable is properly connected (red line always goes to pin 1) newer boards only allow you to seat the cable on way, also the floppy depending on age may have this option. Leave the case open, power up. if it works, close the case, if not goto #4
Fourth. Remove your floppy disk drive and replace it with another. these are like.. $7 used at a computer repair shop. (and tested) then follow step 3 to install the new drive.
