There is no reason I know of that prevents anyone from asking anything. Just look at some of the crazy questions people are posting on this site.

Some people are nervous or afraid of the topic, but for anyone with legitimate questions, there should always be an honest answer.

Suicide is a touchy subject. Depending on the person who communicates the idea, and the listener, and how strong or weak he/she may be emotionally, if someone "asks" me about suicide, it sends me a red flag. It means that the person IS indeed contemplating the idea. If the person screws up, and reinforces the idea of suicide. . .what do you think is most likely to happen? Person might commit suicide. That is why it is best not to even think about it. Life is too precious.

If you mean the Terms of Use, they don't say you can't ASK about suicide; they DO say you can't PROMOTE suicide (or, presumably, give anyone advice on how to do it, etc.).
As far as I read the Terms of Use, a question such as "How common is suicide among American teenagers as compared to Japanese teenagers?" would be OK. BUT, they DO say to be cautious, so if you aren't sure if you are allowed to ask it, think it over first.
And read the Terms over for yourself; that is my interpretation, but I do NOT work for Yahoo!, and I am NOT an official source for what is and is not OK. This is just my opinion.

Because it is only illegal to kill yourself, not to try and kill yourself. If you fail you go to the hospital to be examined to see if you are crazy. Talking about suicide is like saying bomb in an airport. People have to take you seriously. So asking can wind you up in the hospital or in jail. Look into the works of John Locke on freedom and you will better understand this limitation.

I think it may possibly be a legal issue. If somebody looks for suicide help on here then people make harmful suggestions then somebody could attempt it. If its shown on their computer that they got bad advice from this site then they could be held responsible. Stupid but I think that's why.

Why can't you ask who about suicides? Do you mean in society as a general? If so it's mainly because it is a taboo subject that makes people uncomfortable.

Suicide is the sign of irresponsibility for own life. Find the other solution if you have a problem, ask for help.

Because anyone who really knows his **** is dead already. The best thing to do is just keep on keeping on. Life's mystery will come for you soon enough.

As long as you ask about the ethics involved, i can't see a problem.

But if you ask for tips and techniques.....well, they probably will remove your question.
