You get those cramps for several reasons but some may be the lack of niacin in your diet or dehydration. Caffeine is a natural dehydrator so try to stay away from it.
What I do at the time of the cramp is grab my foot at the toes and pull back while I straighten out my leg. also try stretching your calf's.

I point my toes and make a stretch oppisite directions the cramping mucle is going and rub the cramped mucle hard until it relaxes, often times this happens when I am sleeping and hurts like hell.

Moan in pain, rub the area and move the muscle as much as you can. Next time warm up before exercising.

Eat a banana. You might be low on potassium. Or you might just be dehydrated. Gatorade will take care of both problems at once.

Point/stretch your toes up towards your body...the pain will go away really fast.
