I accidently ripped it off the track, and realized it isn't as simple as getting a coat zipper back on the track since it doesn't seperate at the bottom like a coat where you could line it back up. After messing with it for a while, it almost seems like I'd have to cut some of the bottom of the zipper with the "stoppers" off so I can pull the whole zipper off and realign it. Of course, that would kinda ruin the shorts. Any better ideas that have succeeded?

Your idea of cutting the bottom off, reinserting the zipper pull and realigning the zipper was right "on track". You can repair the bottom again and keep the zipper pull from falling off by hand-sewing the ends together securely with a needle double-threaded with strong thread. Just wrap the thread around the cut ends several times and through the fabric of the zipper to secure it, then tie it off. I've done this many times.

I bring that stuff to the tailor or cleaners usually they fix it and not too expensive. :)
