I can easily apply eyeline on the bottom lid but, on the top lid it is too high and too far up. I can not get it right on the spot of my eyelid where you eyelashes are connected.

Please help!

It doesn't have to be perfect! Use the eyeliner with the little brush at the other end so that you can blend it! On the bottom, just make little dots...it looks better and more natural than the "line!"

liner doesn't have to be perfect. If you put it on your top lid have the tip slightly blunted. if it's really sharp the thing will crumble and you'll have a terrible mess. press gently. you want to draw a line not poke your eye out. Close the eye you are applyingon, look with the other eye. Use a q-tip to blend. you want a soft line. Liquid liners can be messy.

Another suggestion (for the pencil fearing crowd) use a small make up brush (lip brush works wonders) and apply a darker shadow in the place of a liner. it's easy it's blendable and you have control over how light or how dark you want the accent to be. you also have more color choices ;)

try to use one of your fingers to hold the lid (but your eyes are semi opened) and slowly draw the line right on top of your eyelashes, draw a thin line first and then work through till the end. After that try to fill in the blank (spots that u might missed or the innerside of your lid or just to make the line thicker), dont push the pencil too hard. try finding a soft pencil eye liner. if you want a cleaner look(for heavy make up / night make up) apply a liquid liner on top of the pencil line that u've drawn.

Don't pull your eyelid- that's just begging for wrinkles!
Lean your head back slightly so your eyes are half-closed. Start with the pencil at the inner corner of your eye. Use short, sweeping strokes along your lashline until you have a line drawn all the way across your eye. Don't try to make it in one line, it will not look natural. (I know, you're thinking 'eyeliner never looks natural,' but when it's done right, it does.)

Rest your elbow on the countertop, so that it's stable. If you are right handed, use that hand to draw. If you're left handed, use that hand. On the eye you want to line, pull the outer edge of your upper lid out, so that you look Asian. Start at the outer corner and go in. It doesn't have to be perfect, because you're going to smudge it a little with your finger or a q-tip anyway. to soften the line. The line should be a bit heavier at the outer corner of your eye...thinner at the inner corner. Be sure your pencil is soft. If it's hard, it will pull on your lid, and not do right.

I close my eye and pull out a lttle at the outside corner to strech the lid a little.
Then I start from outside edge and go in.
Try and stay as close to the lashes as possble.
Also try a softer pencil that doesnt require a lot of pressure.

It isn't pathetic not to know something like this. No one knows instinctively how to put on make-up. Some may have a better eye for it,( pun intended) or grasp the technique easier, but EVERYONE LEARNS THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR.
Just keep practicing, you'll get it...
Besides, everyones eyes are shaped differently, so it has to go on fit to everyones eye shape. Different eyes, different ways.

Like most said, pull your lid with your finger, start from in and work out. Also avons and bonne belles eyeliners are very soft.

to get the best results you sharpend it as sharp as it will get the u start from any corner of the eye then you press down a little hard but not to hard just so it feels like its smooth then bring it to the other corner and do this with your best hand (left or right);)

Just buy those easy ones like loreal paris and just open your eyes a bit and put the eyeliner in the eye, it's easy, believe me. You can do it.
