Government leaders should not be held to piublioc opinion, but the should consider it. There was a percentage of people thatg oppossed George Wahington during the Revolutionary war. The same was true zbout Abe Lincoln and the Civil War. Harry Truman's approval rating were low after he dropped the atomic bomb. Often, our govenment leaders and members of the administration have more knowledge about incidents than the common man. Express yourself at the voting booth.

Good Question. Which opinion do they follow? Obviously, even from the forum here(and ignoring comments from those who are obviously whacked), there are as many opinions as there are people.

Our leaders are chosen in the voting booth by the majority because they supposedly reflect the opinion, desires, and views of the majority. Therefore, in theory, the leaders are following public opinion. The fact that some change direction like a leaf blowing in the wind cannot be foretold, or perhaps it is an election year.

I think it depends on the issue. If its a local issue about which the people actually have an understanding, then yes. If its a nation-wide issue about which people know nothing more than cheesy slogans and the opinion of columnists, it is better if the leaders ignore public opinion.

IN a true democracy, of the people, by the people, for the people. ALSO, popular vote should determine presidency, as opposed to electoral college.

YES.

THIS COUNTRY BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE. THE REPRESENTATIVES ARE CALLED THAT BECAUSE IT IS THEIR DUTY TO REPRESENT THE MAJORITY...OF LEGAL AMERICANS.

THEY ALSO HAVE A DUTY TO UPHOLD THE LAWS OF THE LAND AND A HIGHER DUTY TO SECURE OUR NATION AGAINST ANY SECURITY RISK.....ANY AND ALL SECURITY RISK.

YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF WHY THEY HAVEN'T SECURED THE BORDERS? WHAT'S IN IT FOR THEM?
