my son was trying right from the beginning but I understand it is usually by 3 months, now don't be concerned after I have said that as all babies mature at their own pace. One thing you can try is if you have a nursing pillow or a body pillow should work too. Lay your baby against the pillow with their feet touching the floor still, play with them while facing them and encourage him or her to look up, it will help, just don't push him or her to do it, it happens in due time. We have something here called Ontario Early Years Centers, and Babies Best Start programs, they have a public health nurse staff and make house visits as often as you need. I found it very helpful in getting my son on the floor playing enough and making sure he had enough "tummy time" on the floor everyday. Try taking a look at the link I added to see if there are any of these types of programs in your area.

I found that babies can hold their heads up between 0-4 months of age. So your baby is close. And it just depends on how strong their neck muscles are. Every baby is different so if yours is doing something a little slower than the average that is ok. No need to worry.
Have fun and enjoy that cute little baby

My daughter started holding her head up at 3 1/2 months. Every baby develops at a different rate though. I would ask your pediatrician if you are concerned that your baby is behind.

All children develop at different rates. My son did not hold his head up, roll over, sit up or anything until he was 6 months old. His pediatrician said it was normal. Today is is 16 and has been in college for 2 years so, don't worry too much about it.

If you cannot get past the worry, talk to your pediatrician.

You should be taking your child to check ups at the doctor. These appointments are very important in finding out if anything is wrong. I would suggest putting your baby on his/her stomach to play while you are watching him/her of course. This will give the baby a chance to build up the muscles. Ask your doctor or county nurse.
